Guru Purnima
Guru Purnima (IAST: Guru Pūrṇimā, sanskrit: गुरु पूर्णिमा) is an Indian festival dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers. This festival traditionally celebrated by Hindus and Buddhists, to thank their teachers. It is marked by ritualistic veneration of the Guru, Guru Puja. The Guru Principle is a thousand times more active on the day of Guru Purnima than on any other day. The word Guru is derived from two words, ‘Gu’ and ‘Ru’. The Sanskrit root “Gu” means darkness or ignorance. “Ru” denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore one who removes darkness of our ignorance is a Guru. Gurus are believed by many to be the most necessary part of lives. On this day, disciples offer puja (worship) or pay respect to their Guru (Spiritual Guide). It falls on the day of full moon, Purnima, in the month of Ashadh (June–July) of the Shaka Samvat, Indian national calendar and Hindu calendar.
Guru Purnima is the new year for the spiritual seeker. It is a day for
reflection on our credits and debits. A day to be grateful for all
that you have achieved in the past and resolving all that you want to
do in the coming years. It is a day to be grateful for all the
blessings and knowledge received and to see how the knowledge has
transformed our life. Realizing this and feeling grateful for all that
has come your way – celebrating this and the tradition of Masters who
preserved this knowledge is Guru Purnima.
Ask for whatever you want and it will be bestowed. The highest and
best desire is to ask for knowledge and freedom. Our body has billions
of cells. Each cell has its own life. Many cells are born and are dying each moment. You are managing an entire township inside your
body. The way there are so many planets moving around the sun, there
are many many cells moving around within you. You are a township, in yourself like a bee hive.
Become a personification of receptivity. Empty yourself of your petty ego-sense. All the treasures locked up in the bosom of Nature will become yours! You will have progress and perfection in an amazingly short time. Become pure and unattached as the mountain breeze. As the river flows continuously, steadily and constantly towards its goal, the ocean, by moving every moment of your life towards the Supreme State of Existence-Knowledge-Bliss, let all your thoughts, all your words, all your actions be directed only towards the Goal.
