Anchor Energy

A full moon is that phase of the moon when it is completely illuminated as seen from the earth. During this time, the earth is right between the sun and the moon, with all three in a line. This full Moon occurs around the end of the seasonal monsoon rains in the Indian Subcontinent. For Buddhists, this full Moon is Pavarana, the end of Vassa, the three-month period of fasting for Buddhist monks tied to the monsoons (Vassa is sometimes given the English names “Rains Retreat” or “Buddhist Lent”). In Laos this full Moon corresponds with Boun Suang Huea or the Boat Racing Festival (which will occur on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020). In Sri Lanka, this is Vap Poya, which is followed by the Kathina festival, during which people give gifts to the monks, particularly new robes (so this lunar month is sometimes called the Month of Robes).

Full moon has always been a sacred time for spiritual practices in many ancient religions and cultures. In fact it is believed that full moon is a  time of opportunity. Because of its magnifying effects on earth and its people, it has been observed by generations that whatever activity is being done during the full moon, will be magnified in effect and intensity. Meditating during full moon has been recommended from long ago, which can help us harness the magnifying effects of the full moon for greater spiritual activities and helping the mother earth.

A full moon always falls in one specific astrological sign. Every sign carries different energies and themes, and we can use this information to connect us with the cosmos. Here are some keywords associated with each sign to help you get started on your journey:
